Safety on Rumaal
Rumaal helps adults say hi before an event and meet there as two people who already said hello. Here is how safety works.
Is Rumaal safe?
Rumaal is built to reduce risk before you meet. Every profile is checked by a real person, a chat opens only after someone accepts your Chitthi, messages disappear after 24 hours, and you can block or report anyone. No app can guarantee safety, so Rumaal also recommends that you meet only at the event itself, around other people.
How does Rumaal verify profiles?
You share your LinkedIn profile link and take a live selfie in the app. A real person on the Rumaal team compares the selfie with your LinkedIn photo. Until you are verified, you can plan your nights but cannot see who else is going. Verification confirms that you match your LinkedIn photo. It is not a background check.
Who can see my selfie and LinkedIn link?
Only the Rumaal team, and only to verify you and keep the app safe. Other users never see them. Your selfie is deleted once you are verified.
What do other people see about me?
Other verified users see your first name, age, photos, bio, interests, your work if you choose to show it, and your note for an event. They do not see your surname, LinkedIn link or email.
Can strangers message me on Rumaal?
No. Contact starts with a Chitthi, a short introduction. A chat opens only if the other person accepts it. A daily limit on Chitthis keeps it from turning into mass messaging.
Do Rumaal chats really disappear?
Yes. Messages are deleted 24 hours after they are sent, and Rumaal keeps no chat history. The one exception: if someone reports a chat, a copy is kept with the report so the team can review it.
How do I block or report someone?
Open the person's profile and choose Block or report. You can report a fake profile, someone who made you uncomfortable, or harassment or unsafe behaviour.
What happens after a report?
A report for harassment or unsafe behaviour pauses the reported profile while the team looks into it. Three reports remove an account. Many blocks flag a profile for the team to review.
Is Rumaal only for adults?
Yes. Rumaal is for people aged 18 and over.
How will we spot each other at the event?
Every Rumaal profile has its own coloured rumaal, shown on your profile. When a Chitthi is accepted, you see the colour your match will carry. Agree a time and a gate in chat, carry something in your colour, and look for theirs, the way people once met by a coloured rumaal.
How do I delete my account?
Open Me and choose Delete my account. It removes your profile, photos, plans and Chitthis.
How can I stay safe when meeting someone from Rumaal?
Meet at the event, where other people are around, not somewhere private. Tell a friend which event you are going to and who you expect to meet. Keep your phone number, home address and workplace details to yourself until you are comfortable. Leave if anything feels off, and report it.
How do I contact Rumaal about a safety concern?
Write to hello@rumaal.live. Reports made inside the app reach the same team.
